DR. Jayesh N. Doctor
M.B.B.S. from Grant Medical College. Went to London in 1961, for D. O. Received D.O in 1963
Pioneer in IOL Surgery in Suburbs of Mumbai. He was the President of Andheri Medical Association, Indian Medical Association west suburban branch. At present he is Head of Ophthalmology Department of B.C. J. General Hospital (Asha Parekh Hospital) and also Trustee of the Hospital.

As narrated by Dr. Jayesh Doctor
"I started practice in 1964 with a gift of a Cataract knife from 1960. It is since four decades of Ophthalmology. What a colorful scenario we had. We started Cataract surgery with Grafe Knife, without sutures with conjunctival Bridge, and then came sutures from 6 ° to 10 °. Intra Cap with forceps, Erysiphake and later with Cryo. In those days we used to go home and do bed side surgery, I too have done a few in 1965
Then came IOL changes. Varieties of IOL's, Iris Plane IOL, Iridocapsular, Sputnik and PC IOL. There were no Viscoelastics, then came microscopes. Results were not 100% but the patients felt obliged, as fully matured cataracts were removed. Patients who were not able to see anything, for him any sight was good enough and of course now we have Phaco and in the bag IOL.
In Glaucoma, we had Pilocarpine and Diamox. Surgery it was drainage operation Iridencleisis. For a long time there was only manual perimeter. Tremendous changes have taken place in ophthalmic surgery. Science has progressed fast and so has our ophthalmology. What a wonderful thing to see the use of Yag Laser for capsulotomy or for P. B. in Glaucoma. Patient's stay in the hospital has been cut from 7 days to 7 minutes only.
Our surgery has progressed well and I am sure it will progress further for the betterment of the patient and the society. What was good then is no good today, and probably with the progress what is good now may not be good enough in future. I wish all the youngster all the best for the future. "
